This project had major constraints and building issues from the start. At the beginning I was given a very strict budget and timeline from the client, there was 30 years of previous renovations and repairs under walls and floors and also, the brief was to be adhered to at all cost.
With the help of my business partner, we demolished the bathroom and took it all the way back to the wall studs. We were confronted with dodgy wiring, rotten wall studs and many layers of solid concrete on the floor which had to be jackhammered up.
New studs were installed, the electrician replaced certain aspects of the wiring, the plumber had to re-rout the plumbing & update the lines to drain properly. Once all this was completed we could install new villa board, waterproof, tile the wall and floors, install the new bath with a frameless screen, new toilet, vanity, fittings.
There was further issues with the floor still not draining as required, so further assistance was required to have the floor re-tiled and grouted. In the end, the budget went over and 4 days were added to the time line.
